In this module we have several learning objectives including a better understanding of the term "business intelligence", the main components of an effective business intelligence (BI)strategy, how to discriminate between BI and related activities such as knowledge management and how to distinguish between the main BI tools and their relative utility

Here is one area for discussion: Social factors and organizational politics may impact decisions about information collection, retention, and sharing and related technology choice issues and vice versa. For example, people may gain power by controlling access to information or withholding information from others. Have you had experiences with social and political factors impacting these decisions? What do you think would be important social and political factors?

Here is another subject you may wish to discuss: If you owned a chain of shoe stores and you were gathering information about your competitors, is that really "business intelligence"? If you were using a database to gather information on what shoes were being purchased by women between the ages of 24 and 40, is that database a BI tool?
