This assessment requires you to undertake a role-play to demonstrate your ability to understand and respect differences in personal values and beliefs in the workplace.

Learner instructions

A member of your work group approaches you for advice. Another team member has told her she should remove her head scarf at work because it doesn't suit the image of the organisation and she'll lose her job if she doesn't comply. How do you respond in a way that respects her personal values and beliefs and promotes their importance in the development of your work relationships, while also adhering to anti-discrimination legislation?

Prior to commencing this role-play, you should:

• Read your workplace or training environment's anti-discrimination policy or procedures.
• You may like to access or print the relevant section(s) of your workplace policies or procedures (if possible) to support the role-play.
• During the role-play, you are required to demonstrate the following skills and knowledge.
  • Show respect for a colleague's personal values and beliefs and treat them with respect and sensitivity.
  • Use culturally appropriate communication skills when using verbal and non-verbal communication.
  • Show support for all team members.
  • Consider social and cultural differences when difficulties or misunderstandings occur.
  • Communicate in a non-discriminatory way.
  • Identify problems and conflicts and address them appropriately.
  • Conduct the role-play, record the role play on video and attach the link at the bottom of the script to submit.
