We study four different types of fallacies in this module. Two of them, affirming the consequent and denying the antecedent, are mistakes that occur when we confuse valid forms such as modus ponens and modus tollens. If you want to focus on deductive reasoning in this discussion, then you should develop an example of either a case of affirming the consequent or denying the antecedent, and explain why your example is an invalid argument.

The other two fallacies, overgeneralizing and overlooking alternatives, are mistakes we find in inductive arguments. If you would like to focus on inductive reasoning, then you should develop an example of an argument featuring overgeneralizing or overlooking the alternatives, and explain why the resulting argument is not strong. You may well be able to think of real-life examples of these mistakes you have encountered recently.
