Imagine you are an Indian leader (you choose your tribal affiliation) along the northern frontier (St. Lawrence River/Hudson River/New England) in the 1600s.  You have been invaded by Europeans.  What is your response?  Explain your answer within the historical context.

Live and let live - there is plenty of room for all of us.  We can stay on our lands and they can stay on theirs.

Negotiate a treaty that clearly delineates territories and rights.  We will allow them to stay as long as they recognize that I am the paramount chief.  Who knows they may prove useful.

Force them out.  They are invaders who want to take what is ours.

Try to manipulate them to our own advantage.  Control the trade and use the Europeans as proxies in our pre-existing wars with other Indians.
