Topic - How to Handle Security in Internet of Things.

Abstract: Internet of Things (IoT) is a technology paradigm in which interconnected devices communicate and interact with one another over the internet. If these devices are not secured, they are vulnerable to malicious actors who can hijack and misuse them for nefarious purposes like carrying out Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks on other unsuspecting parties. In the wake of such issues, several approaches have been proposed to handle the security of these devices. Since the devices involved are constrained by resources of either computing capability, energy or connectivity, the approaches required to handle the security need to be specialized in order to cater to these specific requirements. Analysis of these systems leads to several approaches involving encryption mechanisms, security of sensor data and the use of cryptographic techniques in ensuring the security of the devices. Other areas that need to be secured include authentication and access controls, key management and security routing protocols. This paper looks at the security issues faced in Internet of Things, their implications and the approaches used to address these issues. Addressing these issues is paramount to successful use of Internet of Things in the industry at large.
