Question 1

Organization have larger clerical and administrative support staff due to complex system of work since its systems grows in complexity with its growth. Also, larger organization more communication and reporting carried out by its clerical staff both internally and externally. Big organizations have more number of staff to handle numerous tasks that may be in the organization.

Big organization are more formalized compared to small organizations because of emergence of bureaucracy whereby bigger organizations, due to the decision-making process involving many parties has higher level of bureaucracy. For instance, purchasing a computer can take a while since many parties need to be consulted for accountability purposes. Others include achieving standardization and innovation.

Question 7

Government organization are more beauracratic because they stick to protocol and rules. Employees are discouraged from innovation in methods and procedures. The top management are in control giving instructions to employees in the lower levels. There is increased nepotism and cronyism in such organization. Duties and responsibilities are dished out based on capacity and talent.

The organization is flexible specifically during emergencies while having no specific procedures adapting new approaches to new situations. It has a command structure that is followed. People work simultaneously in different operating structures in this organization. Its name has a positive image out there.

All organizations out there aim at growth normally achieved through utilization of scarce resources. In my view, "no growth' idea should be part of business school since it can be part of a strategy of staying in business. We have seen many businesses opting to scale down production and number of worker, shutting down plants to remain in business. Its advantageous when market is slow.

Most admired companies are profitable since positive reputation has a ripple effect in the market. The company will be in a position to attract more customer, making more sales while increasing in profits. Word of mouth will go viral making it more profitable. Profitability shifts company focus to its culture and employees which are vital to continued profits.

Value based leadership is critical since it motivates employees to perform better. Employees have a sense of belonging as a result. Ethics and social responsibility of the organization including its employees has a direct impact on its financial results. Value based leadership creates a supporting environment. It values employees as company assets. Symbolic acts show that a company puts its money where its mouth is.

I agree with this statement since man's greed is insatiable and growing. I recently read in an article that Facebook is patenting a program to record what people are saying at home. This is an example of a company that will go all the length to infringe on people's privacy for profits.

Organizations are made up of employees hence become unethical when employees are unethical. Code of ethics for an organization acts as the backbone of how people behave and its culture.
