The Microsoft court case of the late 1990’s was a very controversial ruling against Microsoft whose effects we have not yet fully experienced.

A) Describe the background of the case, the key points of each side’s arguments, the ruling and why it was so controversial.

B) Now, suppose instead that the Supreme Court found that Microsoft was not guilty of an antitrust violation. Speculate on how this alternate reality would affect the tech industry. When writing your answer, be sure to discuss:

iii. The prices consumers would face

iv. The variety and quality of computer products

v. Overall welfare
