Assessment - Team Performance Evaluation
Learning Outcome 1: Assess the key principles and theories underlying management to achieve high performing organisations at projects, teams and individual levels.
Learning Outcome 2: Evaluate what makes relationships between people and teams effective in organisations and projects.
Learning Outcome 3: Justify contemporary management strategies that ethically address people management issues in conflict, performance management, and change management scenarios.
Assessment Task
Prepare a professional team performance evaluation of the team in which you completed Assessment 2, using the Team Performance Evaluation instrument provided (1,500 words). You will critically assess your team's performance, and evaluate the relationships and dynamics that shaped it, and justify recommendations for improvement, grounded in relevant theory and evidence by your own records and observations.
Please refer to the Instructions for details on how to complete this task.
Context
Managers are responsible for the delivery of results through teams, and that responsibility includes evaluating how those teams perform. Formal team and performance evaluations are a routine instrument of professional practice: you will complete them, be subject to them, and act on them throughout your management career. Done well, they turn experience into improvement; done properly, they become paperwork that changes nothing.
In this assessment, you will conduct one for real. The team you worked for in Assessment 2 gave you direct experience of how teams form, function, struggle and deliver. You now step back into the evaluator's chair: applying the theories and frameworks of this subject to your own team's performance, committing to evidence-based judgements, and recommending improvements that could actually be implemented, ethically, and with regard for the people involved. The evaluation practice you produce is individual: it is your professional assessment, not a team consensus.
Instructions
Complete every section of the Team Performance Evaluation instrument provided in the Assessment 3 section of MGT600 in the LMS portal. The instrument defines what must be evaluated; the analysis, judgements and justifications within it are yours.
Your evaluation concerns the performance of the team in completing Assessment 2 - not the quality of the work the team produced.
Ground your analysis in concepts from Modules 4, 5 and 6, drawing on earlier modules where relevant, and support your judgements with academic research and with evidence from your own records and observations, using APA referencing throughout. The observations and team-process records you gathered during Assessment 2 are your primary evidence base.
The team dynamics and improvement focus may also relate to team building and managing conflict.
