Developing the Research Methodology
Learning Outcome 1: Justify the foundation of the research proposal in order to establish its significance in the scholarly research.
Learning Outcome 2: Clearly define and discuss the role of emergent propositions, concept modelling and frameworks in evidence-based research.
Learning Outcome 3: Demonstrate an understanding of the elements and the core structure of the research proposal. Build a framework for analysis for a chosen research project statement.
Learning Outcome 4: Develop a scholarly research project proposal by critically analysing and evaluating complex issues in the chosen field of study.
Context
To gain traction, you must demonstrate expert understanding of theoretical knowledge and use intellectual independence to think critically, evaluate existing knowledge and ideas, propose a systematic research undertaking, and reflect on the practical advancement that will generate original knowledge in a new light. This assessment allows you to demonstrate the communication skills to explain and critique theoretical propositions and models, and to present a complex research plan to satisfy an industry board or research funding body. The results are deliverable to a group of peers and experts in your community of practice. Completing the assessment will assist you in developing your thesis, as demonstrated in the following diagram.
Assessment Task
Submit a Research Project Proposal that will convince an industry expert or the board of a research funding body to approve the cost and time required to conduct your research, and that demonstrates the impact your research will deliver to industry and society. Your proposal will draw on Assessment 1, adding new elements that establish a complete blueprint for your research.
Instructions
Your research proposal will respond to the following questions.
What do you wish to find through your research (the solution to your research problem)?
Why is this important (the purpose of your research)?
What are your research questions and the associated hypotheses or propositions?
How will you use and develop existing knowledge to further your inquiry (theoretical framework and literature review)?
What are the relationships among the concepts, concept maps, theoretical and conceptual frameworks, research model, and the research gap in your topic?
What ethical considerations will you factor into the conduct of your research?
What methodological approaches, research questions and data do you propose to use to execute the inquiry?
Required Components
Your proposal must include the following components:
Cover page with title, your name, and research discipline
Introduction to the problem and research area, leading to the problem and purpose statements
Problem statement
Purpose statement
Brief literature review covering the relationships among concepts, concept maps, theoretical and conceptual frameworks, research model, and the research gap in your topic
Research questions, sub-questions, and hypotheses or propositions
Overview of the research methodology and quantitative research techniques, including how you will operationalise the research model and the research questions, and the data required
Ethical considerations, including knowledge of the ethical approval processes for research with human subjects
Significance and contributions of the proposed research
Delimitations (scope) and limitations of the proposed research
Conclusion
Timescale (research timetable)
Resources (budget and technology requirements)
