Task on Training and Employee Relations

The peer presentations and readings for this week are filled with concepts that are important for managers to think about when developing and maintaining employee relations. The nice thing about this week's theme is that each of us have had personal experiences or heard of other's experiences with most these topics. Consequently, we have made thoughts and perhaps have strong opinions about some of these topics that come from the readings. The exercise is all about finding interesting ideas in each of the four readings, making some critical thoughts about them by drawing on your own experience, others experiences, peer presentations, or what the research says, and then integrating all of the ideas.

Please do the following:

1. Read each of the four assigned readings (two HR chapters and two journal articles)

2. From these readings select one idea that was brought up with which you have had personal experience or about which you have opinions.

3. Do the following for your idea or concept:

a. Identify the concept cite the source from which it comes

b. provide a working definition of the concept or construct.

c. Explain why you find the concept interesting or important.

d. From your own experiences, provide either evidence in support of the idea presented or evidence to argue against the idea presented. (This most likely will include relating some kind of story. You could also include finding other scholarly articles / trade publications to support your position).
