The aim of the project is to give you an opportunity to apply the concepts learnt in the course to a real life merger/acquisition/divestiture/LBO/restructuring etc. kind of deal.
Please take any corporate restructuring activity that has caught your fancy from any country in recent past (ideally, you should try to analyze a deal which happened within last 5 years but in any case, please don't take any deal older than 10 years).
You should try to write a comprehensive project report similar to the standard of a Harvard Business School case - analyzing the historical industry and company specific parameters, reasons for the deal, structuring of the deal, issues it raises, and the valuation methodology (please discuss important points like comparables, betas, TV growth rates etc). Also, you should look at the deal structure carefully, and after analysis of the deal structure, if you think it makes sense, you should recommend alternate deal structures (like alternative financing models, alternative leverage ratios etc.).
Requirement: 800 words in all
It is of our choice to tell about what acquisition will you be working on and also need the detailed financial excel for the workings. I was thinking of Tata and JLR acquisition but if you believe that there could be a better one which will take into consideration all that is asked from the project guidelines, then you can choose. But the most important is the excel workings and the questions in the guidelines.
I am also uploading some info that i found online, maybe of some help to you. But again these do not have any excel workings!
Carefully researching alternatives like If a company merged or divested division X, then what would have happened if company had merged or divested division Y instead, are important questions and sometimes can throw light on deep issues.
Finally, on the basis of in-depth analysis, you should say whether the price paid in the deal was fair or high or low? So, the project entails you writing a HBS level case and also providing your solution to the case!
Please note that you should use data extensively in this project. Use real corporate data from library databases, company's reports and filings with regulators, balance sheet and income statement, articles etc.
