Assessment - Insights and Delivery
Learning Outcome 1: Analyse data to produce exemplar and interactive visualisations.
Learning Outcome 2: Transform insights into stories to mobilise positive action.
Learning Outcome 3: Synthesise visual analytics insights to communicate in a professional or industry context.
Assessment Task
For this assessment task, your team of consultants will elevate your visual analytics project based on feedback and data enrichment opportunities. Your team will complete the following tasks:
Refine the selected problem and primary dataset (e.g., from Assessment 2).
Enrich the analysis by identifying, curating and integrating at least two new, complex data sources that add critical context.
Expand and refine your interactive dashboard to blend these new and original data streams, revealing deeper insights.
Synthesise your complete findings into a persuasive data story that is not just informative but designed to mobilise positive action.
Advanced analytical techniques such as Data Mining can support deeper interpretation of integrated datasets and improve the quality of visual insights.
Context
This assessment task mirrors the "insights and delivery" stage of a professional analytics engagement. After defining the problem, preparing and analysing data, and gathering feedback from stakeholders, the consultant's focus will shift to finalising the project and communicating the insights. At this stage, the emphasis moves from information to persuasion. The goal is to leverage data, dashboards and storytelling skills to convince an audience to make a change, adopt a strategy or fund a solution. Your team is encouraged to create a sophisticated, public-facing portfolio (for example, on Tableau Public) using the output from this assessment to demonstrate your advanced analytical and storytelling skills to future employers. Effective Management Information System MIS practices can also strengthen decision-making and reporting throughout the analytics process.
Instructions
Propose Project Scope
Choose a problem/dataset as your foundation (e.g., from Assessment 2).
Submit a one-paragraph proposal that identifies your chosen problem, the two (or more) new data sources you will integrate and how this new data will enrich your analysis.
Curate and Integrate Data
Start with the primary dataset from Assessment 2 and any additional datasets that were proposed.
Integrate at least two new complex datasets to enrich the insights.
Document the integration process in a Data Preparation Log, detailing new sources, their justification and the cleaning steps performed to prepare the data for analysis.
Applying concepts from Database Management DBMS may assist in organising, integrating and managing multiple datasets efficiently.
Expand Dashboard
Design (with wireframes) and enhance the dashboard from your Assessment 2 submission.
The new dashboard must be more sophisticated, integrating all the data sources to tell a comprehensive story.
Publish and Showcase Your Dashboard
Publish your final, polished and interactive dashboard to Tableau Public.
Ensure that the dashboard itself tells a story, with a clear flow, titles and descriptive text to guide the user.
Include an "Information Tab" or clearly marked documentation section (a common industry practice) detailing the dashboard's objective, data sources, key calculations and a user guide for its interactive features.
Create One-Page Executive Summary
To supplement your dashboard, create a One-Page Executive Summary. This is the "leave-behind" for your stakeholder.
This one-pager presents a persuasive data story, not just a report, that must define the problem and audience, summarise key insights, mobilise action with specific recommendations and include a hyperlink to your live Tableau Public dashboard.
Based on your analysis, provide two to three specific, actionable outcome-based recommendations for your stakeholder.
