Question

1. A brief summary of the Australian cinema industry and also Hoyts cinemas.

2. Analyze the general environment (using PESTLE analysis) of the Australian Cinema Industry and discuss their strategic implications for Hoyts Cinemas.

3. Use Porter's Five Forces Framework to analyze competitive environment of the industry, assess the nature/strength of the competitive pressures and suggest whether collective strength of the five forces (for Hoyts cinemas) will be conductive to good long term profitability.

4. Based on the external analysis and internal analysis, conduct SWOT analysis and discuss its strategic implications for Hoyts.

5. Combine all analysis and recommend which of the business level strategies (Cost leadership, differentiation, integrated etc.) will be most appropriate for Hoyts and why. A strong justification is needed for the recommended choice and explain how it will help Hoyts in maximising the wealth of all its key stakeholders.

6. Identify which type of organisational structure Hots currently follow, critically evaluate its existing organizational structure and suggest what changes will be necessary (if any) to align it more with the chosen business strategy. Formalization, specialization & centralization need to be discussed such as what they are/what they should be within the Hoyts organisational structure and why this is so. Then whether they are high, medium or low.
