1. Seniority: In the event of a layoff the Union wants a strict “last in-first out” provision so that anyone selected for layoff could “bump” a less senior employee thus protecting the more senior person. The Company is concerned that using Company-wide seniority would cause chaos. They argue that if only one department is slow and needs to have a layoff workers in other departments should not be affected. They also question how to ensure that the senior employee is qualified to do the job of the less senior person.

2. Company Bulletin Boards: The Company has agreed to let the Union post materials on one bulletin board exclusively for its use. But, the Company is concerned about what will get posted and wants reasonable limits. There is also a question of who in the union can post materials.

Create wording that meets the legitimate needs of the Union while addressing the Company’s concerns.
