There are two different schemes you could use to synthesize 1-cyclohexylpropan-1-ol using a Grignard reagent and carbonyl-containing compound (that is not an ester). Suppose scheme one involves the reaction of the Grignard reagent containing more carbon atoms with the carbonyl compound containing less carbon atoms and scheme two involves the reaction of the Grignard reagent containing less carbon atoms with the carbonyl compound containing more carbon atoms.
