General Electric Co. has developed an advanced fuel-cell battery that will supply the primary power needed during orbit by space capsules.
The peak load delivered by the battery will be just under 2kW. The facility will be assembled from ion-exchange-membrane cells, in which the membranes are sheets of a tough, undisclosed plastic.
The fuels supplied to the cells will be hydrogen and oxygen. Though fed in the gaseous state during battery operation, these two elements will be sorted as liquid, to conserve space.
The equipment is inherently reliable because it is simple, and it achieves 60% thermal efficiency under normal load. Also, the battery will yield a by-product that is highly valuable in space-flight---- a pint of pure drinkable water for each kilowatt-hour of operation.
If the O2 and the H2 are stored as saturated liquids at their normal boiling point, what is the enthalpy change per g mol of O2 between the liquid storage tank and the state of which the O2 enters the fuel cell (1.5 atm, 27oC)
In a gas mixture, the partial pressures are argon 455 , neon 85 , and nitrogen 135 .What is the total pressure exerted by the gas mixture?
A 275.0 mL sample of O2 is collected over water at 60.0 degrees Celsius. The total pressure is 755 torr. What is the volume of the O2 at STP? (The vapor pressure of water at 60 degrees Celsius is 149 torr)
When aluminum reacts with concentrated hydrochloric acid, hydrogen gas evolves. The hydrogen is collected by displacement of water at 22ºC at a total pressure of 750 torr.
Iron has a density of 7.87 g/cm3. What mass of iron would be required to cover a football playing surface of 120 yds × 60 yds to a depth of 10 mm? (1 inch = 2.54 cm; 1 lb = 453.6 g)
A solution is made up using equal volumes of 2.0 M acetic acid (Ka= 1.8 x 10 to the power of negative 5) and 0.00050 M HCl.
The solubility product of PbBr2 is 8.9 X 10^(-6). Determine the molar solubility in the pure water.
solvent to be used to extract a compond from an aqueous solution and when carrying out an extraction, what are the advantages/ disadvantages of having your extraction solution more/less dense than water?
how many phosphoester bonds and phosphoanhydride bonds are in adenosine
determine the initial concentration - Constant rate is 3.20×10-4 M/s for a zero-order reaction. concentration has dropped to 9.00×10-2 M after 60.0 seconds
What volume in mL of 0.075 M NaOH is required to neutralize the following solutions? A. 200 mL of a 0.0500 M H2C2O4(diprotic acid) solution.
If the absolute temperature of a gas is doubled, what happens to the root-mean-square speed of the molecules?
The reaction, seen below, is carried out in a constant-volume flask. Initially only dimethyl ether is present and the pressure is 0.350 atm. What is the pressure of the system after 8.0 minutes? Assume ideal behavior.
