An experimenter finds that she is unable to establish a premixed carbon monoxide flame when using an oxidizer composed of high-purity O2 (21%) and high-purity N2 (79%). When room air is used as the oxidizer, however, she has no trouble marinating a flame! Explain why the carbon monoxide burns with the room air but not with the synthetic bottled air.
