"A group is two or more persons who interact with one another such that each person influences and is influenced by each other person." (Griffin et al., 2019) The text emphasizes that in order to be classified as a group there must be interaction (Griffin et al., 2019). Simply because individuals are gathered does not classify them as a group. In reference to the text, teams are an interdependent collection of at least two individuals who share a common goal and share accountability for the teams as well as their own outcomes (Griffin et al., 2019). In short, a team differs from a group because teams are based on interdependency (Griffin et al., 2019).
The stages of group development are mutual acceptance, communication and decision making, motivation and productivity, control and organization. Mutual acceptance in the workplace usually begins with ice breakers to lighten the room and to get to know one another. Communication and decision-making stage is observed as the group getting comfortable with one another (Griffin et al., 2019). It is noted that conflict may increase (Griffin et al., 2019). This stage is crucial because this is where groups can get stuck. Learning to effectively communicate and actively listen to one another will help resolve conflicting issues. Likewise, a conscious culture will remember the end goal. Moreover, roles are assigned due to the increase in communication (Griffin et al., 2019). Motivation and productivity brings the group to the point of accomplishing the initial goals set(Griffin et al., 2019). The final stage, control and organization brings the group to completing the assignment. Overall, a conscious culture realizes that each person plays a part in achieving success.
If you took a job at a company with poor communication and ineffective role designation, what would you do to improve the environment and create success?
