In this week's video, after Stephen Cave's grandfather died, little Stephen was comforted in the belief that his grandfather was "up there" and that he too would take the existential elevator upon his own death to be with his grandfather.

After the death of his four year old son, Eric Clapton wrote these lyrics for Tears in Heaven:

Would you know my name

If I saw you in Heaven

Would it be the same

If I saw you in Heaven

InstructionsPart I (6pts)

For this discussion I would like you to ponder Clapton's questions. Then respond by offering an opinion as to whether a person can be recognized after death and if so, how. Socrates quieted Crito's fears by saying his person wasn't dying, only his body. But how will Socrates be recognized as Socrates if he doesn't have a body? Any suggestions?

Part II (6pts)

After you offer a suggestion to the discussion board, it will open so you can see the responses of other students. Read through those responses with a philosophical eye. Reply to one you find philosophically problematic. Clearly state the problem you see or ask a philosophical question about it. Be kind in your responses. Others may try to solve the problem you stated or answer the question you asked. Remember, as Haack stated, acquiring knowledge is like doing a crossword puzzle. Have fun!
