Short-term memory measures, like digit span, does not correlate very much with performance in other cognitive tasks whereas operation span and reading span, which are working memory measures, can predict people's performance in a wide range of complex tasks. Discuss your opinion about why working memory measures are more reliable and predictive than simple spans (for short-term memory).
