Financial reporting fraud is considered a white collar crime. In response to several financial reporting scandal, legislation (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) was enacted to protect investors from these types of crimes. In addition, the SOX provided protection to whistleblowers. Research the protections provided to whistleblowers under the Act.
