Detailed quantity and cost estimation
Introduction
You are a member of a civil contractor's team who is tendering for the Deakin ManuFutures works located at the Waurn Ponds Campus of Deakin University.
This project has been advertised on Deakin University's tender portal, Tenderlink, and is a publicly avail- able tender for eligible civil construction companies. Your company is eligible to tender for this project as they meet the specified prequalification requirements outlined in the tender advertisement. Tender drawings and the tender schedule with calculated quantities have been produced for this project and the provided spec- ification requirements will apply to this project. The following appendices have been provided to complete the detailed quantity and cost estimation and scheduling:
• The site location, see Appendix A;
• The project tender drawings, see Appendix B;
• Structural drawings are provided on the unit site1.
• A template for plan cost with calculated quantities is provided on the unit site2;
A price list for some relevant items required for the works, Building Cost Index (BCI) 2018 is uploaded on the unit site3.
Conduct of the work
This is an individual task. Each student needs to submit their own report. You are allowed, however, to work on the quantities and item costs in groups.
There is a hurdle on this assessment task. You need to obtain 50% of the mark of this task to be able to successfully complete this unit.
Requirements
You need to submit a report (see Section 4 for more information on the required format of this report) which addresses the following requirements:
1. Check the quantities provided in the tender schedule using suitable estimating methods and comment on any variations to the provided quantities.
2. Use the provided price list or obtain comparative rates to compile rates for each of the items in the cost plan spreadsheet.
3. Nominate a margin to be applied to material rates and subcontractors to allow for contractor profit and overheads.
4. Identify and comment on other costs or items that are not included in the provided tender schedule in your report.
5. Document your findings and estimating process in your report and progressively using your journal diary portfolio.
6. Develop a construction program indicating the approximate duration of works, the duration of key activities for the project and sequencing of works to complete the proposed project;
7. Explicitly state any exclusions relating to your calculated rates.
8. Explicitly state any assumptions you use during the completion of your tender schedule. Important notes:
Construction programs can be in Gantt chart format using software packages like Microsoft Project (available on Apps and Desktops Anywhere), bar chart using Microsoft Excel or other suitable format; You are encouraged to request further information from the Client (Deakin University / SEV210 teaching staff) if details are unclear or require further clarification.

The details should go to appendices.
The minimum formatting requirements for this report are as follows:
