The owner of a new puppy wants to "house train" her pet. She reads a study where a researcher selected 15 puppies for training. Three training methods were used. Reinforcement with doggy treats (pleasure), spanking with newspaper (pain) and a combination of the two (combination). The study indicated that 10 of the puppies responded best to pleasure, 2 responded best to pain, and 3 responded best by combination. The researcher concludes that reinforcement by pleasure is, ingeneral, the best method for house training puppies.
