Do you agree with the sequencing of responsibilities in the CSR pyramid? Remember that this pyramid is designed to give society's view of business responsibilities.
Would the sequencing indicated by the pyramid be different from another society's point of view (e.g., China's, India's, Sweden's, Mexico's, and so on)? How? Why?
A stakeholder CSR perspective would focus on the pyramid as a "unified whole," meaning that business decisions and practices should fulfill all four responsibilities simultaneously or concurrently (instead of sequentially). Can you describe a situation in which managers should consider at least three aspects of the CSR pyramid simultaneously in a decision?
Can you think of a situation in which triple bottom line goals (economic, environmental, social) are compatible or synergistic in a decision? Can you think of a situation in which trade offs are possible or likely? The latter is an important consideration because trade offs can exist and, when they do, they may serve as a rationale for public policy, regulation, or stakeholder pressure.
Can you describe an example of strategic philanthropy? Cause branding? Explain.
What do you think of corporate philanthropy, cause marketing, or cause branding if you take a consumer's perspective? An employee's perspective ? A stockholder's viewpoint?
