CASE: MANUFACTURAS LLOPART
Manufacturas Llopart is a Company located close to Barcelona wich produces and sells electronic components for the spanish market.
The Company was founded by Mr. Llopart in 1980.
M.L. manufactures a good quality product and since 7 years ago, they didn´t have any serious competitor in his market.
However, because of globalization, some trading Companies are importing and distributing similar products in Spain to lower prices than M.L. does.
Mr. Llopart son´s, Jordi, is responsible since some years ago from the purchasing department. He buys mainly to three strategical suppliers (always the same ones) and he´s very proud of the “low price he gets from these suppliers”.
Mr. López is the warehouses Manager and he´s very satisfied with his work as all the warehouses which M.L. has in Spain (8) are always full of all kind of components in big amounts. “I will never suffer a stockout!!!”, he says.
Finally . Mr. Pérez works as Transport Manager in M.L. He assures he can deliver in less than 24 hours in the different warehouses in Spain. He´s sending daily a truck (they have their own truck fleet) to each warehouse either the truck is full loaded (seldom) or not.
Reality is that Mr. Llopart is really concerned as profits are continuously declining and he has more and more problems to generate capital enough to make the plant to run properly.
Mr Llopart´s daughter Leila, is learning a BBA Grade in the European University. She feels the problems their Company are facing maybe have something to do with a matter called Business Logistics she´s learning in 3rd year.
She proposes her father to create a Supply Chain Department. His father doesn’t understand very well how Supply Chain could help to improve results but he agrees and decides she will be the new Logistics manager.
