The data set below, S10 , from Holmes and Mergen (1992)6 , is a sample of viscosity measurements taken from ten consecutive, but independent, batches of a product made in a batch chemical process.

The desired target value for the product viscosity is 14.9. Assuming that the vis- cosity data constitutes a random sample from a normal population with unknown mean and unknown variance, at the α = 0.05 signi?cance level, test the hypothesis that the mean product viscosity is on target versus the alternative that it is not.
