You will take on the role of a consultant to analyze the situation of Entomo Farms and provide a list of priorities and recommendations to Kelly Hagan, COO of Entomo Farms.

This is group assignment. Make sure you communicate early and often. If your partner is unresponsive, tell your instructor so groups can be reassigned.

Learning Outcomes:

The purpose of this case assignment is to meet the following course learning outcomes:

This case analysis is divided into two assignments. It is recommended that you review all assignment instructions at the beginning so that you can see how they build on each other. It will also help you to stay focused on one topic at a time.

Assignment: Conduct external analysis using the case information:

Each time that you use one of the analytical frameworks from this course, think of it as three phases: 1) selecting the framework, 2) using the framework, 3) interpreting the results by explaining the impact on the company in terms of specific opportunities, risks, challenges, weaknesses, or strengths.

Using the Frameworks:

Complete a Five Forces analysis (module 7) to explain what is happening in the industry. Be sure to specific on you are defining the industry. For each of the forces, make sure you explain how the force contributes to the level of competition.

Identify any PESTEL trends that you think are affecting the industry. Be clear about which part of the business model canvas it is affecting and whether the trend is having a positive impact or a negative impact.

Interpreting the Frameworks:

Write a short report to the COO to explain how you think the external analysis will impact the business model of Entomo Farms in the long term. She wants to receive:

A description of the most appropriate target market

An example of a marketing message that communicates the value proposition.

An explanation of the distribution channel that will have the best chance of getting the product to the end-users

You need to give your recommendation and then justify it by using an interpretation of the Five Forces and PESTEL analysis that you completed. Put your Five Forces and PESTEL into an appendix so that your report can stay focused on the three topics Kelly has asked for.

Tip: Remember that the COO is super busy so keep your writing organized and concise with subheadings, images, and diagrams as needed. Your interpretation should make it obvious on why the COO should care about your analysis and what it means for the company.

A WORD OF CAUTION: You may look at the Entomo Farms website to understand what they are currently doing but don't assume that what they are doing now is the best course of action based on the information in the case. In fact, assume they made some mistakes and you are helping Kelly to improve.
