Question: Research on Substance/Alcohol use is one of the main factors of homelessness in America
Assignment Information
Instructions
Please include the following sections in your proposal (in APA formatting):
1. Introduction
a. Background
b. Rationale and purpose
c. research question(s), objectives, and hypothesis
2. Literature review (minimum of 3 studies - should be peer-reviewed and primary studies) - should be completely worked as given in week 5 assignment document
3. Methods* (primary research - NOT systematic literature review (see below))
a. Discuss theory and/or model used for research design
b. Select your methods as quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods. For qualitative research, describe the Who, What, How, Why, and When of your research question. Which sampling method you will use, along with describing which research methods you will use and how you will collect data? For quantitative research, what data will you be collecting and how? What is the scale of measurement for your data and the units? Discuss how you will select the sample including size and composition. How will you accept or reject your hypothesis? For mixed methods research, you must choose a mixed methods design for how you will integrate qualitative and quantitative data to answer the research question.
c. Data collection procedures (must be detailed). What is the source of your data (primary or secondary)?
d. Data analysis procedures. If quantitative, provide the statistical program and tests you will run. If qualitative, discuss how you will code and identify themes.
e. Study design validation and ethics
4. Study Limitations - include potential bias, validity, confounding variables, ethical considerations and sample size issues.
5. Conclusions
a. How your results will be presented (think about tables and charts you can create)
b. How your results will be disseminated - would you like to publish? If so, where would be a good place?
c. What the impact of your study may be (policy, practice)
6. References
7. Appendices including an appendix with your timeline for the project. Develop Gantt Chart.
NOTE: You may add extra sections if it will help to format your paper.
Format: Follow APA format for proposal.
*If you are proposing a systematic literature review, it must include the following sections for Methods:
METHODS (PRISMA methods for Systematic literature review - you must include all 12 sections)
1. Eligibility criteria - Specify the inclusion and exclusion criteria for the review and how studies will be grouped for the syntheses.
2. Information sources - Specify all databases, registers, websites, organisations, reference lists and other sources you will search or consult to identify studies. Specify the dates you will conduct the search.
3. Search strategy - Present the full search strategies for all databases, registers and websites, including any filters and limits used.
4. Selection process - Specify the methods you will use to decide whether a study met the inclusion criteria of the review, and if applicable, details of automation tools used in the process.
5. Data collection process - Specify the methods you will use to collect data from reports, any processes for obtaining or confirming data from study investigators, and if applicable, details of automation tools used in the process.
6. Data items - List and define all outcomes for which data will be sought.
7. List and define all other variables for which data will be sought (e.g. participant and intervention characteristics, funding sources). Describe any assumptions made about any missing or unclear information.
8. Study risk of bias assessment - Specify the methods you will use to assess risk of bias in the included studies, including details of the tool(s) used, and if applicable, details of automation tools used in the process.
9. Effect measures - Specify for each outcome the effect measure(s) (e.g. risk ratio, mean difference) you will use in the synthesis or presentation of results.
10. Synthesis methods - a. Describe the processes you will use to decide which studies were eligible for each synthesis (e.g. tabulating the study intervention characteristics and comparing against the planned groups for each synthesis).
b Describe any methods you will use to tabulate or visually display results of individual studies and syntheses.
c Describe any methods you will use to synthesize results and provide a rationale for the choice(s). If meta-analysis was performed, describe the model(s), method(s) to identify the presence and extent of statistical heterogeneity, and software package(s) used.
11. Reporting bias assessment - Describe any methods you will use to assess risk of bias due to missing results in a synthesis (arising from reporting biases).
12. Certainty assessment - Describe any methods you will use to assess certainty (or confidence) in the body of evidence for an outcome.
Please ensure you cite your references in APA format with a minimum of 7 references (including 3 peer-reviewed journal articles).
The paper must be typed, double-spaced with 1-inch margins in 12-point Times New Roman font with all references cited.
