Exercise: Sensitive Information Message
You are the president of a company that is eager to start marketing and selling its new product (you can make up the company and product). The marketing department created business cards, brochures, and other marketing materials for the launch; they also planned a public relations campaign to celebrate the launch of the product. Unfortunately, they did not do enough research into Canadian business practices to know that the country is officially bilingual, and that the province of Quebec requires French-language versions of all promotional materials.
Address the situation by doing the following:
1. Research official language requirements in Quebec.
2. Search the web for professional translation services and find a rough estimate for the cost of translating an eight-page brochure into French.
3. Write the indirect sensitive message that commends the marketing director for working hard on the project, but that also describes the current translation issue. Remind the director of the need to thoroughly research the marketing expectations of different jurisdictions and advise the director of her next steps (i.e., if she needs to translate the materials, how much money is in the budget?)
Formatting:
1. Format the document as an email.
2. Single space.
3. You do not need to include a transmittal letter.
5. Cite any secondary sources using APA.
