You are an employer with 15 full time employees, paying an average wage of $30,000 a year. You are concerned about how the requirements of the federal healthcare legislation will affect you. Some other business owners you know say "ObamaCare" will ruin them. You decide to do your own research.

A friend shares this video overview of the new law:

The YouTunes Get Ready for Obamacare

You find the following small business resources online:

  • Health Reform in a Nutshell: What Small Businesses Need to Know Now from the Small Business Council of America, a pro-business organization (https://www.sbca.net/Health Care Reform in a Nutshell.pdf).
  • SHRM Healthcare Reform Resource Page (https://www.shrm.org/hrdisciplines/benefits/Articles/Pages/HealthCareReform.aspx).

THE ASSIGNMENT

Discuss whether you feel this new legislation will hurt or help your small business.

Support your opinion with information from your research. At a minimum, make sure you address the following issues:

  • Are employers required to offer healthcare under the new act?
  • What are at least two provisions in the law which might make it easier for small businesses to offer health insurance to their employees?
  • What are at least two provisions in the law which might have a negative effect on small businesses.

Do not simply answer the questions. Present convincing arguments to support your position: whether the law will help or hurt small businesses.

As always, 500 words is a good guideline for the depth of detail you should be providing.

Save your assignment as a rich text file, browse and attach to this page, and submit your assignment.
