A survey was taken of students at a large university in the fall of 2003; among other things, students were asked to report their gender, and which of these colors they preferred: black, blue, green, orange, pink, purple, red, yellow.

a. Which one of these colors could be expected to be preferred more by males than by females: black, pink, purple, or yellow?

b. Of all the colors, which two could be expected to be preferred more by females than by males: black, pink, purple, or yellow?

c. Use software to access the student survey data. Report the percentage preferring each color for males and for females.

d. For four of the colors, the difference in percentages between males and females is close enough that it could conceivably have come about by chance; in other words, it is plausible that the percentage preferring these colors is the same for the general populations of male and female students. Which colors are they?
