Teamwork and Communiation

More and more, businesses are relying on electronic methods for communication: emails, IMs, even virtual meeting methods such as Skype or WebEx. Meanwhile, many people have either personal or business smartphones that let them receive work-related calls, texts, and emails everywhere—including evenings, weekends, holidays, and personal vacations. While employees are not required to make themselves constantly available, many people feel that they need to do so, especially when they are members of a team. This has led to concerns in many organizations over work-life balance. Do you think a team member needs to be constantly available to the rest of his or her team? Why or why not? What impact would “pulling the plug” have on a team? Be sure to use specific details and examples.
