City of Phoenix police believe that the number of calls for service on any summer night is related with temperature (the hotter the night, the more calls to police).  If the number of calls can be forecast, the department can use the results to allocate personnel. A research analyst regresses the number of calls for service (Y) on the Fahrenheit temperature at 4:00 in the afternoon (X).  The regression equation finds: Y = 62 + 2.4X with an r2 of .67
