PART 1: Unit of Work Out Line (300 words)
Use this section to develop an outline of an 8-week unit of work for a complete module of the syllabus in one of the courses, Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Earth and Environmental Science for Year 11 Australian Curriculum or Preliminary NSW Syllabus HSC Science. The unit of work should reflect a well-developed ability to plan for effective learning, including consideration of safe teaching practices in laboratory and fieldwork contexts where appropriate.
Use this proforma to
• plot the distribution of the knowledge content and relevant WS skills content statements over the time allocated. i.e 30 lessons/periods.
• show a basic knowledge and understanding of how to translate a stage 6 module into a meaningful sequence of 30 X 53-minute lessons, including consideration fo how safe and appropriate learning environments are maintained during practical science activities where relevant.
• Include required K&U content elaborations (dot points) and WSS content statements in 10 of the 30 lessons.

1- Annotated Rationale (500 words)
The rationale should:
1. Contextualise the lessons within a unit outline. 2. Clearly and specifically link the teaching and learning elements within your lesson plan to ‘Working Scientifically' and ‘Knowledge and Understanding' syllabus outcomes (or other state equivalent outcomes). 3. Include reference to how the APST focus areas are included. 4. Justify the use of the teaching and learning strategies (including assessment) using the information from the unit content. 5. Describe the links between the sequential lessons.
An annotated rationale is included in this task as it is a requirement of practicing teachers as part of their professional learning and it gives you a means to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the application of the curriculum/ syllabus and AITSL standards in your teaching and learning practice

CONTEXTUALISATION (not included in word count)
Pretend High School is a public 7-12 high school, three hours South West of a sprawling Australian City. The school has a socioeconomic distribution slightly skewed to the lower and middle quartiles compared with the Australian distribution (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority [ACARA], 2020). The school population includes 6% Indigenous students and 13% with a language background other than English (ACARA, 2020). School attendance averaged at 89% with 80% attendance for Indigenous students in 2019 (ACARA, 2020), indicating room from improved engagement. This Year 11 science class in your discipline comprises 15 students, with 10 boys and 5 girls.
The class includes one Indigenous student and two students who speak English as another language or dialect (EAL/D) at a consolidating learning progression (ACARA, 2016, pp. 24- 25). Students have selected the subject as they are generally interested in Science. Most students in the class are quite academically competitive, however there are a few students that have difficult home living situations and are often distracted or disengaged during class lessons.
