Assignment:

The first reflection paper will focus on issues of historiography as related to the decisions by historians of where to start their historical narrative, and what implications those decisions have for how we then understand history.

To that end, read the chapter entitled "The Grip of Sacred History," in David Lord Smail's On Deep History and the Brain. How do the ideas presented in this chapter relate to what we read in chapter 1 of Worlds Together, Worlds Apart, Volume 1. Concise Third Edition? How does it relate to the framing of each chapter (that is to say, what the authors to chose to introduce each chapter in our book)? Cite specifics from both texts.
