The breaking strengths of cables produced by a certain manufacturer have a mean, of 1925 pounds, and a standard deviation of 65 pounds. It is claimed that an improvement in the manufacturing process has increased the mean breaking strength. To evaluate this claim, 50 newly manufactured cables are randomly chosen and tested, and their mean breaking strength is found to be 1931pounds. Can we support, at the 0.05 level of significance, the claim that the mean breaking strength has increased? (Assume that the standard deviation has not changed.) Perform a one-tailed test. Then fill in the table below.
Carry your intermediate computations to at least three decimal places, and round your responses as specified in the table.
Answer the following:
Hypothesis:
1)H0
2)H1
3) The type of test
A) T test
b) f test
c) Chi square
d) Z
4)The value of the test statistic
Round to 3 decimal places
5) The P value
6) Can we support the claim that the mean breaking strength has increased ?
Yes or no
Four research participants take a test of mannual dexterity (high scores mean better dexterity) and anxiety test (high scores mean more anxiety). Scores are as follows:
Suppose 1.5 percent of the antennas on new Nokia cell phones are defective. For a random sample of 10 antennas, find the probability that:
A population of scores has p = 44. In this population, an X value of 40 corresponds to z = - 0.50. What is the population standard deviation.
If the observed value is 4, the expected value is 5, and the standard error is 4, then the test value used for the z test is equal to
How many measurements should be made in order to be 90% certain that the maximum error of estimation will not exceed 2.0 seconds?
Determine the calculated value of the test statistic? What distribution does test statistic have when null hypothesis is true?
Hypothesis Testing: We wish to test the claim that the mean body mass index (BMI) of men is equal to the mean BMI of women. Use the data to the right to test this claim.
Repetitions of numbers are not permitted, i.e., the same number cannot be used more than once in a total sequence. As examples, 27, 94 or 55 would not be permitted. How many different code groups can be designed?
In the real world, a given null hypothesis is false; but the collected data lead to the null hypothesis being accepted. That is, the data lead to a failure to reject the null hypothesis.
At the heart of quantitative research is regression analysis. A regression model simply measures the association of two variables - variation: the dependent variable's observed value
In a perfectly symmmetrical distribution: a) the range equals the interquartile range b) the interquartile range equals the mean c) the median equals the mean d) the variance equals the standard deviation
From a previous study, the standard deviation of the ages is known to be 3 years.
