Researchers might explore the question of the effect of work habits on marriage in a variety of ways. Tell whether each of these possible designs features one categorical, one quantitative, one each quantitative and categorical, two categorical, or two quantitative variables:

a. For a large sample of couples, determine whether the husband averages more than 50 hours of work a week and whether they get divorced.

b. Compare hours worked in a week for a sample of husbands who stay married to hours worked in a week for a sample of husbands who get divorced.

c. Find the average hours worked per week for a sample of husbands who get divorced, and compare it to the known national average for all husbands.

d. For a sample of husbands who work more than 50 hours a week, find the proportion who get divorced, and compare it to the known national divorce rate for all husbands.
