Quality means different things to different people. Several programs, including the Baldridge Award, Six Sigma, and a variety of TQM (Total Quality Management) efforts exist to continually maintain and improve quality in high performing organizations. These all have, as a large part of their foundation, work accomplished by W. Edwards Deming. The principles laid out by Deming can be applied more broadly than a specific program's requirements.
This week, write a paper similar to past weeks, one to two pages in length answering the questions below. The information is found in Chapters 2 and 4 of our text. This week is different- it is a discussion. After posting your original paper, respond to at least two classmates, commenting on their view of key points they identified regarding Deming in Question 4. Your response must be substantive and specific. There is no length requirement but it should be less than one page. I assume 2-3 paragraphs.
Include the following topics by number:
1. What was Deming's background?
2. What is variation, according to Deming?
3. What is the Deming philosophy?
4. What, in your opinion, are the three most important of Deming's 14 Points and why?
