Strategy Timeline Labeling Due by July 8th at 10 a.m. 40 points possible Choose an organization that you are interested in that has published a timeline of significant events in its history. Print a copy of the timeline (or portion if it is too long) and clearly identify the strategy being pursued by the organization for four significant events on the timeline. You may use any of the strategies discussed in class (e.g. related diversification, unrelated diversification, forward integration, backward integration, divestiture, product development, etc.). Provide a one paragraph to one-page description of why the event/action by the organization fits the definition of the strategy label that you used. You must tell what the organization “Did”. For example, if you choose an oil company and say they are vertically integrated because they own divisions related to exploration, refining, distribution and retail, you have not been specific enough for this assignment. In this example you would need to say that at some time (use dates from the timeline) they were only involved in exploration and refining and then describe the actions (e.g. opening retail service stations in year XXXX) for me to accept the label of Forward Vertical Integration. Be sure to tie some action(s) to the strategy label. If the source material uses strategy labels in its timeline, do not merely accept the source materials label regarding the strategy being described. You may also want to do additional reading from Fortune, Forbes, BusinessWeek, WSJ, trade magazines or newspapers to get additional insights into the company’s actions. Apply your knowledge of the terms discussed in class and apply it to the organization’s actions. Reminders: 1. Clearly label the associated strategy for an event(s)/action(s) from the company’s timeline (e.g. related diversification, product development, etc). Provide a one paragraph to one page explanation for each
