We have discussed several factors that are used in market segmentation.

Demographic factors included Age, Gender, Income, Wealth, Social Class, Race, Ethnicity, Religion, Household Composition, Marital Status, Presence of Children,

Psychographic factors included Behaviors, Attitudes, Lifestyles, etc.

Geographic (e.g. lives in New York vs. lives in California)

Behavioral (has certain usage patterns, brand expectations, brand loyal, price sensitive)

It’s easy to provide examples of segmentation based on demographics or geography. In a 1 page paper, choose a product category that you’re interested in (like automobiles, laundry detergents, or toothpaste) or a service category (like retail stores, restaurants, banking or tourism) that uses at least three of these types of segmentation. Explain how different brands within the category appeal to these different segments. Keep in mind that the category you choose may make use of more than three of these segments and you should address as many as you feel are relevant. But the category you choose must appeal to at least three of them. Be sure to include examples of specific brands within the category and how they position themselves to appeal to the specific segments. What have you learned?
