Getting Feedback on Your Resume and Cover Letter (LO 16.3, LO 16.4, LO 16.5, LO 16.7, LO 16.8)
To determine how well you are promoting your selling points (your two or three key abilities and two or three key attributes), do the following in this order:
Write down your key selling points.
Use your résumé and cover letter (ones you have or have just created this week for this course) to highlight these key selling points.
Without providing what you believe are your key selling points, ask a trusted classmate/colleague/professor to review your résumé and cover letter. Specifically, ask your peer to answer the following questions:
Based on these documents (résumé and cover letter), what do you think my key selling points are? Ask your peer to mention abilities or skills and attributes or traits.
Do my key selling points stand out clearly? Do you think my resume and cover letter provide a consistent message about my selling points?
What suggestions do you have for me to improve these documents?
