Problem
In 1972, the television documentary written and narrated by TV-Investigative reporter, Geraldo Rivera exposed deplorable living conditions at the NYS Willowbrook State School (0ver 5,000 residents). The living conditions and inhumane treatment led to the parents of many of the residents to file a class action suit in Federal Court. Please help me write a reflection paper addressing the following questions:
A. How did the Willowbrook Litigation become a symbol of reform on many fronts in the care of people with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities living in institutions, in NYS and nationally. Get the instant assignment help.
B. Provide an overview of the Consent judgement's specific procedures and instructions for treatment of residents, covering issues such as resident living, the environment, programming and evaluation, personnel hiring, education, recreation, food nutrition, dental and medical care and conditions for research and experimental treatments.
C. Provide an overview and explanation of the Consent judgement mandating that NYS Dept of Mental Hygiene (now Office of People with Developmental Disabilities): "ready each resident....for life in the community at large" .and called for the placement of Willowbrook residents in less restrictive settings.
D. Provide and overview of the enactment of legislation and regulations (in New York State and in the U.S.) that resulted after the case.
