Purpose and Overview

The purpose of this Leadership Self-Assessment is to provide a leadership profile based on the competencies necessary for strong, superior leadership. The data that you provide will enable you to construct a profile, complete with areas of strength and areas for Future development.

Please complete the instrument by assessing your own behaviors and skills according to the directions below. Be honest-the more rigorous you are, the better you can target your developmental needs. Remember, the instrument is meant to assess how you believe that you actually are; not how you think that you should be.

The following four items available in Bb Lecture Materials:

1. Leadership Questionaire completed
2. Answer sheet completed
3. Competency Profile completed
4. Development Programme completed.

Make sure your Development Programme item 4 uses the lowest two scores from your profile unless the scores are the same, then you will need to select two competencies that you consider are needs for your development.

Describe what skills and knowledge aspects of these competencies exist and then describe in detail with a realistc timetable over a three month period what experiences you will need to be exposed to gain these competencies.

Where , when, how and who will need to be addressed by your development programme. It needs to be in tabular/table form and also described in a 400 - 600 word narrative assignment. It needs to be real and practical and address your actual needs and how you will achieve development to satisfy such needs.

Bring all four items with you as hard copy for assessment.

1. Check your Blackboard.

2. Open and print off a copy of the Leadership Questionnaire.

3. Read about the 5 leadership competencies namely - focused drive, emotional intelligence, trust, conceptual thinking and systems thinking.

4. Complete the 50 item questionnaire with each question being awarded a 3/2/1 score based upon 3 being very like you, 2 being a little like you, and 1 being very unlike you.

5. Score the questionnaire with 5 totals.

6. Complete the Leadership Profile by joining the scores with a pencil line on the graph.

7. Undertake a Development Plan by writing 2 pages which show what you need to be developed further in ( select the two lowest competency scores or if the scores are the same select the two competencies from the five that you think need development for you. The plan should show what knowledge and skills you further need to make you a better leader and how you will get these items over what period of time.

8. Hard Copy under my door Room 2FD104 with name and ID no.

9. Soft Copy of Development Plan to my email with Name and ID no.
