Business Requirements Analysis Assignment -
Case Study: JenJin Translations
Your mission is to develop a technology enabled solution to support the new job listing/assignment process.
In your Business Requirements Analysis process, use information extracted from the attached case study description, undertake background research into a similar business and the market, and make assumptions if you need additional details. Document your assumptions and information sources.
Assignment Objective - Your objective is to conduct some independent research on the topic and the domain under study. There are TWO tasks:
1. Propose an approach to requirements elicitation. To do this, you need to suggest a technology solution, identify end users and propose an approach to gathering users' requirements.
2. Modelling task. Based on your student ID number, you will see two available assignment drop boxes to submit your assignment. Select one of the available Drop boxes. Next, identify a suitable aspect of the case study and explore it in depth. Finally, create a model that illustrates and explains the (wisely) selected aspect of the case.
Task 1 - Propose an approach to requirements elicitation
The proposal should select an approach to collecting and eliciting users' requirements in undertaking the business analysis exercise for JenJinTranslations. The proposal should include the following aspects:
1. Name the proposed technology system for JenJinTranslations.
2. List the end users of the proposed system and their characteristics.
3. Describe two approaches to collect and elicit their requirements.
4. Suggest how to apply each of these approaches to elicit users' requirements for the proposed system.
5. Highlight potential benefits and issues you may face as a business analyst when using each elicitation approach and how to overcome.
6. Recommend one approach to collecting and eliciting users' requirements in undertaking the business analysis exercise for JenJinTranslations.
Week 4's materials and additional readings (Topic 4) are directly related to this task. Cite and include references that you use in completing this task.
Task 2 - Modelling Task
How to choose one specific technique/approach for modelling the case?
Use one specific technique, which is to be chosen from the following list based on your Deakin student number. Your student number is in the following form: dddddddXY.
Depending on the last two digits of your student number (X and Y) you have a choice of one of two modelling approaches. The two drop boxes matching the last two digits of your student number are visible for you to choose.
X/Y - Technique/approach
1 - Current SWOT analysis and strategy formulation (Week 2).
2 - Stakeholder chart and importance-influence chart (Week 3).
3 - House of quality (Week 4).
4 - Use cases diagram and event flow description for one complex use case (Week 5).
5 - Use cases diagram and sequence diagram for one complex use case (Weeks 5 and 6).
6 - Domain class diagram (Week 6).
7 - BPM using BPMN 2.0 (Week 7).
8 - Business analytics proposals (Week 8).
9 - Develop eight user stories with themes and epics (Week 9).
0 - Develop and evaluate four user stories using INVEST (Week 10).
Assume Mary's student number is 234123770 and Lary's student number is 234123716
- Mary can use either BPM (X=7) or "INVEST" (Y=0).
- Lary can use either "SWOT analysis" (X=1) or "Domain class diagram" (Y=6)
If the last two digits of your student number are similar, Y is added by 1.
- For example, if student number of Kathy is 254823777, she can use either BPM (X=7) or "business opportunity matrix" (Y + 1 = 8).
Important Notes - In your assignment include:
1. A proposed approach to requirements elicitation
2. Your model
3. Assumptions
Depending on the model chosen, your solution will cover either the entire domain or one aspect of it. Therefore, it is up to you to decide the scope of your solution, to demonstrate specific details or be very holistic. You can refer back to the weekly workshop to decide which approach suits your model. For example, if your task is BPM then you should develop a to-be BPM for a business process that the new system will support. Use the relevant workshop form for the modelling task.
Also depending on the model chosen, you then decide on the order of the assignment tasks. You may need to undertake Modelling task first then Propose an approach to requirements elicitation or the other way around. For example, Lary's student number is 234123716, he can use either "SWOT analysis" (X=1) or "Domain class diagram" (Y=6) for the modelling task. If Lary selects "SWOT analysis" then he should undertake SWOT analysis, formulate strategies and propose a system as an initiative to implement the recommended strategy, identity the users for the system, then propose an approach to gathering requirements from the users. If Lary however selects "Domain class diagram" then he should propose an approach to gathering requirements from the users before undertaking the modelling task.
In total, your assignment should not be more than 2500 words. We also expect no more than 5 pages.
