The project you are planning does not need to be an actual project, but must realistic (no sci-fi projects). I highly recommend thinking about projects that may never get approval, but you think could be beneficial to the company. Be creative!

Regardless of what topic you choose, we will assume the following things:

You know exactly what you want out of the project (this would be outlined in your statement of work which is typically part of a contract).

You have a minimum of 3 people to manage, not including yourself (so 4 people working in total). The project can not be a solo effort.

The minimum time to complete the project is 2 months (most projects will probably last much longer than this).

Cost and time estimates MUST be realistic (nothing can occur immediately and nothing is free)

Answer the following questions:

1) Describe your project:

What is the purpose of the project?

Who is it for?

Why is it needed?

How is this project different from anything that has been done before?

2) What are the roles, or areas of expertise, of each person working on the project? Give each member of the team a creative name related to their role. (Ex. Mark Machinist, Wendy Welder, Fred Financial, etc.)

3) Do you need to make sure anything works in advance? What type of testing should be done in the development process to make sure it works?

4) Aside from the members on your team, describe your stakeholders?

5) Provide a quick estimate for how long the entire project should take. Explain where this comes from.

6) Provide a quick estimate for how much the project should cost. Explain where this comes from.
