Topic: Project management structure.
The project involved would be the expansion of an existing highway that would facilitate the flow of traffic during peak hours. The project is also divided into different sections and it also has external groups involved such as the city, chamber of commerce and construction companies, however the DOT will be doing most of the funding and coordination. All these entities are related to the highway in one way or another.
The question in my assignment asks which project management structure would this particular combination fall under. I answered that this group would fall under the projected organization structure since DOT is leading the project and the local entities are providing their specialized input.
However, I also believe this could fall under the balanced matrix structure because the county, city could provide their resources and funding, the chamber of commerce could coordinate he hiring of local construction companies - and the construction companies would also have a say since they are doing the actual work.
At this point, both answers are convincing to the point that I do not know which is right or wrong anymore. For all I know, it could be a different project management structure than the two I mentioned. Could I get some clarification on where a highway expansion project would fall under in the project management structure?
