During week six, I have made significant progress in developing a foundational understanding of setting up and conducting a feasible research study. This progress includes refining my research problem, crafting a purpose statement, and aligning these elements with appropriate research questions. These steps are crucial for ensuring that my study is coherent and focused, particularly within the context of my doctoral program. One of the major milestones this week was narrowing and refining my research problem statement. Initially, my research problem was too broad, which made it challenging to develop a clear purpose and aligned research questions. Through iterative refinement and feedback from my advisor, I managed to distill the problem into a more specific and manageable scope (Creswell & Creswell, 2021). This refinement process was crucial as it laid the groundwork for developing a precise purpose statement that directly addresses the research problem.

In addition to these accomplishments, I have made headway in writing the Definition of Terms and Assumptions. Defining key terms has been vital for establishing a common understanding of the concepts central to my research (Merriam & Tisdell, 2021). Clarifying assumptions has also been crucial, as it provides transparency regarding the perspectives and theoretical underpinnings guiding my study (Patton, 2020).

However, there were several barriers that impacted my progress. One of the main challenges was grappling with the complexity of qualitative research design. Understanding how to align the research problem, purpose, and questions with an appropriate qualitative design required considerable effort and study (Merriam & Tisdell, 2021). Additionally, defining key terms and clarifying my assumptions and perspectives took longer than anticipated, as it required a deep dive into the existing literature and a thorough understanding of the theoretical framework underpinning my study (Patton, 2020).
