Assignment Objectives: Students will choose appropriate descriptive statistics to describe a dataset, calculate and interpret them. Students will select appropriate graphs to visually describe the data set.
Purpose: This week we learned about some common measures used to summarize and describe data. Using the data we collected last week, you will calculate appropriate measures of center and variation to prepare a report describing the characteristics of the class as a whole. This assignment will give you practice in choosing appropriate summary statistics, calculating and interpreting them. It is likely you may be asked to do this very thing in your job!
Assignment Description: Last week we collected information on characteristics of students in the class. A summary of responses has been attached above. Assume the department chair has asked you to provide a descriptive summary of the typical Herzing student based on the data collected last week. Choose AT LEAST 3 variables that you feel would be relevant and summarize the data using appropriate measures of central tendency and variation. Also, provide graphs for at least two different variables. Summarize the information in a common sense explanation not as if you are speaking to a statistics instructor. Directions for making graphs using Excel have been provided in the presentations this week.
Parameters:
Your assignment will be graded as follows:
choice of at least 3 relevant variables with a complete explanation of why they were chosen
choice of appropriate descriptive measure with calculations shown (mean, variance, median etc.)
at least 2 appropriate graphs to visually display results. Must be informative and labelled.
common sense, plain English interpretation of results. At least one Paragraph long.
  professional presentation style. See below
Your paper should be in Word, typed, double spaced with a title page, introduction, and conclusion. Spelling and grammatical errors will result in lost points.
