Sampling Design
Using the scenario and two variables your learning team developed for the Week 2 Business Research Project Part 1 assignment, create a paper of no more than 700 words in which the goal is to submit a random sampling plan in such detail that another researcher could replicate the method.
Discuss the following:
(a) Population and size
(b) The target population and brief reasoning
(c) Sampling element which may be conducted through any of the following:
- Data mining
- Survey (If a survey is chosen, create a 5-10 question document), or
- Observation
(d) The sample size
(e) Method of random sampling which may include:
- Simple
- Stratified
- Systematic, or
- Cluster
Calculate the sample size using a 95% confidence level, and a 5% margin of error. Place the calculation in the Appendix.
Discuss how validity (and reliability) will be achieved.
Explain how human subjects will be protected (if applicable).
Data collection
Explain how the data will be physically collected.
Explain where data will be stored and how it will be protected.
Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.
The industry chosen is retail and the hypothesis and details are given below.
The price agreed upon is $300 for three papers.
Business Research Project
Save Big Superstore is a wholesale store that sells everything from produce to flat screen televisions. The company prides itself on customer satisfaction; one of the biggest factors driving customer satisfaction is the availability of its employees to the customers. Management recently audited its stores and recognized the rush of individuals during opening and again during the mid-afternoon. Management is trying to find out the balance of employees to customers to ensure customers are taken care of promptly, preventing the loss of potential sales revenue. Management has assembled an internal research team, Team A, to address the balance of employees to customers.
Hypothesis
Team A has found that the stores are staffed with the same amount of people throughout the day. Team A believes Save Big Superstore can increase revenue and increase sales by adding additional employees throughout the day when business is the busiest, and reduce staffing, when there are less customers. The staffing needs are dependent on the levels of customer traffic in the stores. Team A will review sales figures and advise on correct staffing to customer ratio based on the following independent variable, customer traffic. Based on this information, Team A will be measuring revenue levels as the dependent variable, and utilizing the staffing levels for the independent variable. The research question Team A will address is: Does the staffing level at Big Save Superstore have a relationship with revenue? Therefore, the hypothesis statements to be tested are:
Ho: Staffing level has no correlation with revenue.
Ha: Staffing level has a correlation with revenue.
Conclusion
While the Super Big Superstore prides itself on taking care of its customers with immediate availability of employees to its customers, management would like to increase revenue. Currently, Management feels staffing is not properly balanced throughout the day and is asking Team A to review staffing needs for Super Big Superstores. Team A hypothesizes if Super Big Superstore staffs its stores with more employees when the stores are busiest, it will increase revenue. Additionally, if the staffing is reduced during slower periods, expense dollars can be saved.
