Assessment Task 2 - Project

Project 1 - You have been employed as the new operations manager for a small high-end fashion retailer. Until now the business has been run by the family and a couple of casual staff. The business has now grown and has opened a store in a large shopping centre, and to service this as well as their original store the family have hired you to oversee both, along with 2 full timer, 3-part timers and 4 casuals for the new store.

As the business has been solely family run until now they have had no need for performance management plans or processes.

The family have asked you to develop the following for the store:

  • Performance management plan
  • Policy, procedure and process for monitoring and reviewing staff performance
  • Plan to record all the documents according to organisational policies and procedures.
  • A presentation to be used in training staff in the new policies, procedures and process (this should be in PPT and will be required for assessment task 3. Submit PPT slides documents for this task).

Your assessor will act as the member of the family overseeing this and you should consult with them at regular points throughout the development of your policy, procedure, and process.

Project 2 - Write an email to your team congratulating them on a task they have done well. In this email also advise them how you are planning to reward the team/individual on the great work done.

Assessment Task 3 - Presentation and Role Play

Presentation - You are to present your new policy, procedure and process for performance management that you created in assessment task 2. Prepare a 10 minute presentation of 5-10 slides. Your assessor will be using the below checklist during your presentation. So be sure to familiarise yourself with this so you can ensure you cover everything in your presentation.

Role Play 1 - For this role play you will work with 4 other class members.

It is coming up for opening week of the new store (assessment task 2) and you need to work in allocating task, setting key performance indicators. As a group work out a list of tasks that will be required and create a work plan.

Your work plan should include:

  • Tasks to be completed
  • Risk Management analysis
  • Key performance indicators
  • Summary of the most cost-effective way to allocate work
  • Work standards expected
  • Work out puts expected

You will each need to submit a copy of the work plan along with this assessment.

Role Play 2 - For this role play you will imagine that the store has been open for several months now.

Jamie (played by your assessor) is one of the full-time staff members that have been there from the beginning. Jamie has always been an excellent staff member with a great work ethic, however his performance in the past 3 weeks has dropped and he no longer seems to care.

Role play the conversation you will have with him and the plan you will put in place. Complete all required documentation including a performance improvement plan you will need for his staff file and submit along with this assessment.

Note - Only need assessment task 2 and task 3.
